There are many ways of achieving this, but essentailly a website should be free of unnecessary images, long Flash introductions, etc.

Visitors should be able to get around your site easily, without getting confused about where exactly in your site they are!

Appropriate design:

Your website needs to reflect your business, your branding, and it should be designed accordingly.

i.e. A newspaper company needs a different website compared with a restuarant.
